In 2013, President Obama announced the 10-year BRAIN Initiative which was funded by Congress in FY2014. The BRAIN Initiative is a grand challenge to accelerate a better understanding of the brain and to develop new tools to treat and cure brain disorders. This Initiative spans several federal agencies and partnerships with private industry and foundations. We are in year five of 10 of the BRAIN Initiative. So where do things stand? Where will the next five years take us? In short, is this grand challenge living up to expectations?
