March 9, 2021 – The Coalition for the Life Sciences (CLS) issued the following statement in response to Senator Roy Blunt’s (R-Mo.) announcement that he will not seek reelection to the U.S. Senate in 2022:
“Senator Roy Blunt has been a tireless champion for biomedical research. His support for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has enabled the NIH to invest in groundbreaking research that culminates in improvements in human health and wellbeing. His leadership and commitment to working in a bipartisan manner has been instrumental in driving a trajectory of sustained, robust budget growth for the NIH, allowing for the continued investment in people, programs, infrastructure, and technology. Every one of us has benefited from those investments, as the promise of science transforms hope of improved health into a reality. The CLS is very grateful for Senator Blunt’s leadership and strong bipartisan commitment to the NIH. We look forward to continuing to work with him throughout the remainder of his term.”
