Shining a Light on the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease

July 26, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Today, an estimated 5.5 million people in the U.S. suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or some other form of dementia.  The number is expected to double every 20 years as life expectancy rises and the population ages. Currently, there are no effective therapies and the economic burden of Alzheimer’s disease is unsustainable.

Dr. Tsai is trying to change that. She discovered that when Alzheimer’s mice are exposed to LED light flicker for an hour beta-amyloid peptides were markedly reduced. Repeated exposure for several days led to drastic reduction of the sticky plaques that are commonly seen in the brain of Alzheimer’s patients.

Join the Congressional Biomedical Research Caucus to hear Dr. Tsai discuss what this research means for humans suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.  Are we close to being able to prolong the onset of Alzheimer’s disease? Join us to find out.
