The Coalition for Life Sciences is extremely concerned with efforts to discredit Dr. Anthony Fauci. Dr. Fauci is a world-renowned expert on infectious diseases who uses science in an attempt to guide politicians to develop public health policies based on scientific evidence.
COVID-19 is an emergency health crisis unlike anything our nation has faced. Through it all, NIH and, in particular, Dr. Fauci have been at the forefront of the response to COVID-19. The efforts over the weekend to undermine Dr. Fauci by quoting him out of context and claiming that he made mistakes early in the COVID-19 pandemic are unacceptable and potentially very harmful. The pandemic has created an urgent need for evidence-based decision making, without which people will adopt a false sense of security. As the disease continues to wreak havoc on communities across the country, it’s imperative that science leads the way. Facts must drive policy decisions—not the other way around.
Dr. Fauci is seen widely as a voice of reason, offering honesty and integrity in the face of this deadly pandemic. His steadfast approach of sharing scientific knowledge in real time provides the nation with a fact-based approach to solving this pandemic. We urge our national leaders to heed the advice of Dr. Fauci and, indeed, all the medical and public health professionals who are trying to defeat this deadly virus.
